Going beyond the basics

Philosophy

Mary Fornes brings holistic and personalized mental health care online using Western innovation and combining it with Eastern techniques.

Approach

Not your typical psychotherapist...Mary is a trauma focused therapist working with adults who suffer from childhood trauma, PTSD, dissociation, anxiety and depression. In sessions, Mary help clients overcome emotional overload, dysregulation and tap into the mind's natural ability to heal using EMDR, IFS and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.

Goal

In her practice, Mary’s goal is to learn how trauma has impacted the client, recognize the different path of recovery, and deliver effective care.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

A specialized form of therapy that has been proven effective in treating trauma, anxiety, and other related conditions. During EMDR therapy, the client is asked to recall a traumatic event while following a therapist's hand movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation.

IFS (parts work)

Internal Family Systems

There are no bad parts.

It is the nature of the mind to be subdivided into an indeterminate number of parts. IFS is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on healing all parts of the individual, including the parts that may be in conflict with each other.

KAP

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which Ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy.

Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, in my work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form.

Individual Therapy for General Anxiety, PTSD, Depression, Dissociation, Stress, Life transition...

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment. Ketamine has been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.

How does Ketamine feel?

The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience. Once these effects subside, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happens during the experience, patients feel like the insights gained are clear.

What is HSA, FSA and HRA?

Employers may offer one or a combination of the following healthcare cost-saving benefits as part of your employee benefits package:

  • A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) empowers members to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified medical expenses. Clients must determine a set amount to be contributed to their FSA at the beginning of the plan year as it cannot be replenished mid-year. FSAs are generally paired with traditional health plans.
  • A Health Savings Account (HSA) lets you use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified medical expenses. An HSA-qualified health plan is required in order for a client to utilize HSA benefits (not all plans are eligible).
  • A Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is an employer-owned and employer-funded account designed to help members bridge the gap on eligible healthcare expenses. Clients won’t pay taxes on money that comes from their HRA for qualified medical expenses. Common eligible expenses include deductibles, coinsurance and copays.
